Pavo Heart Game: Wednesday Session

When you enter the light, you find yourself hovering weightless in a void, as if caught in a moment of falling inertia. In the distance, you hear a voice that seems to shift and twist, familiar and yet unfamiliar.

"You shouldn't be here. But since you already are, let's make a wager. If you can uncover the truth, you'll find me. If you can't, you may be hopelessly lost... What a shame that would be."

You begin falling, and your vision blacks out--

[He just laughs, a little awkward, and holds his basket a bit closer.]

I do, that's true. You've seen a lot of things I generally don't like to show.

[She sighs, rubbing at her face.]

It would be easier if you weren't so weird about help.

[She comes over to look at the grapes.] Its easy to accept issues. But watching you hurt like that and running from help...

I much prefer people not to know I'm hurting at all.

[SHRUG. At least this self is stripped of all the lies!]

[There's not much change. There are motes of wind magic in the breeze, water in the river in the distance, earth in the soil... The elements are bright and pleasant, but the room itself is exactly what it presents as, as is this Pavo and the ice magic running through him.]

True enough. My situation is a little finicky, but I'll admit I've also just got a horrible personality.

I guess that tracks. Can give, horrible at taking, kind of thing can drive people nuts.

I have been known to irritate certain people. But I'll have you know I'm incredibly popular back home.

People who want to help a lot of people generally are.

Or seen as a nagging busybody.

I've never been a nag! That would be faaar too boring. Personally, I like people who slack off.

[Putting another bunch of grapes into the basket -- and now it's full! So he's turning to head up the path to the manor.]

Would you like to join me for refreshments? No funny business, I promise.

I don't mind people slacking off either. But get on someone's case about not using deadly force in a bar fight and suddenly you're a nag.... [Dryly.]

[She's gonna pick a grape to eat and follow along.]

I could use the break. And would appreciate it. I can deal with terrible, but blind sided is.... [Ugh.]

Ahaha! As a knight, I should agree with you about deadly force. But sometimes, you just want to kill someone. You know?

[Around the manor is a lovely patio, and more signs declaring it to be "Dawn Winery". Maids approach as you come up -- they have faces, unlike the starting hall knight, but you can just tell they're scenery. They're not actual pieces.]

Bring us something nice and light, will you please?

[Pavo makes his requests while oozing charm, and the maids seem all too happy to fill them, scurrying off with smiles on their faces.]

Of course! Sometimes, you want to tear out someone's throat and that's fine. But NOT in the tavern you are trying to book rooms for your entire caravan in! Funnily enough, tavern keepers don't like having people murder in their business.

We had literal assassins after us, there would have been murder soon enough.

[She huffs.]

...are the maids someone you know too?

[Pavo plops the basket of grapes on a wooden table, and takes a seat.]

The maid are... familiar, yes. Although in the real world, I haven't been welcome at the winery in a long time.

We're trying to prevent the summoning of an evil dragon god who would raze everything in fire and the cultists don't approve.

[She sits down across from him.]

Why not? What is this place to you?

[He's heard of evil dragons before, so that makes sense. A maid comes up with a tray of drinks, and Pavo happily takes one to sip at.]

This place is the business of my foster family. It was Noctua's father's, and now it's Noctua's -- and his place of residence. But we had a falling out awhile back, when his father passed. We've made up now, but only in this fairy realm, so I haven't been welcomed back yet.

Do drink, if you like.

...I only remember parts. I mostly have a clear big picture before I talked about it here, but the details are all scattered.

[She will accept the drink.]

The complicated feeling stuff? Why you were hesitant with them accepting you?

[She eyes this drink and will caaaarefully take a drink.]

[It's a mix of a strong, intensely flavoured liquor (think: absinthe), mixed with a sweet sparkling white wine.

It's definitely the same cocktail he was trying to get you to drink in the bar. But it comes with nothing weird -- it's just a drink.]

Because I'm a remnant of a fallen land. --And that's a secret only a bare few people know. I think you've earned a little truth, though.

[He leans back in his chair and crosses his legs, as another maid comes up with a plate of artful little sandwiches, which she places on the table before taking her leave with a bow.]

That's right. I'm afraid I can't tell you the details, but my homeland earned the ire of the gods, and was destroyed. There's nothing left of it now but pitiful sinners.

The gods are too dramatic. [There is definitely some annoyance there.]

[She will take a sandwich though.]

...I mean, not just sinners. Not really.

It depends on the nature of the curse for the people, so I can't speak on that. Maybe it's deeper, or maybe its like how some of the curses of my world are.

But...

History never fully vanishes. No matter how much wrath a place experiences.

That's true. One way or another, everything connects in the end. Celestia -- the seat of the gods, that is -- will have to contend with it one day. As will we all.

[There's a lot of meaning in those words, but he won't elaborate on them.]

In the meantime, I get to enjoy the wine and music of Mondstadt, and the company of its people.

Hmmm, also true. Everything connects. Though I've always seen that in nature more than gods. Though your gods might be less high and mighty about it all and embrace that connection. I'm not sure there's a world that can truly get around that fact.

But even then, people will still get to see your homeland. The things they built, the things there and sent away. No country is ever truly gone. Its the great thing about humanoids. They're so intent on leaving a mark behind.

Mondstadt is a good country then?

[He continues to sip his drink, looking off over the vineyards.]

Mondstadt is nice, yes. It's a kind city, that cherishes freedom more than anything. I don't think there's a place as welcoming anywhere else in the world.

Really? How do they manage that? Freedom can mean a lot of things.

That's true. But... Mond has dealt with several rounds of oppression and corruption. To them, now, freedom means everyone is equal. There are no rulers, and no aristocracy. Everyone helps eachother, and everyone pulls their weight.

Of course there are always people who try to undermine that. There are always going to be selfish and cruel types. But the Knights of Favonius exist to protect those who can't protect themselves. Honestly I feel like it ought to be a matter of time before the knights become a new tyranny, but so far so good. It helps they were founded by the woman who overthrew the last tyrants.

It helps our god is the god of freedom, too.
