Pavo Heart Game: Noctua's Grand Adventure

When you enter the light, you find yourself hovering weightless in a void, as if caught in a moment of falling inertia. In the distance, you hear a voice that seems to shift and twist, familiar and yet unfamiliar.

"You shouldn't be here. But since you already are, let's make a wager. If you can uncover the truth, you'll find me. If you can't, you may be hopelessly lost... What a shame that would be."

You begin falling, and your vision blacks out--

She seems to be really deeply considering this.

[She thinks for a moment, then jumps up and runs over to one of the shelves. She reeeaches up, and retrieves a box from a shelf she can just barely get to.]

This!

[She presents... a game of chess! How very not-Klee-like.]

[She lays out the chess board with all the expert swiftness that Pavo would have. As she does, you see the squares and pieces shift from black and white to blue and red. All the blue pieces are shaped as things Pavo likes, and all the red pieces are shaped as things he knows YOU like.]

Maybe... Klee doesn't care about that, though. Klee just wants to have fun!

[And so you will play chess, but I'm not threading that out because time and also I don't know how to play chess. So please roll 1d6 with whatever dice roller you like. If you get an even number, you win. If you get an odd number, you lose!

Klee will play with all of Pavo's usual tricks, and all his risky but oddly calculated style. It's just like you used to.]

Noctua's style has changed a lot from when they were younger, gotten craftier and riskier, but there's still that distinct heart to it from before, showing in more straightforward moves.

He still loses.]

[With Elemental Sight, this entire room changes, as if you've teleported to another place entirely. The warmth evaporates, replaced by a damp chill, and the cot becomes a table with heavy straps. Gone are the toys and games, in their place instruments of pain and injury. The pile of toys in front of you is now... adult toys.

It's not a play room, it's a torture chamber. And in the middle of the room, rather than a cute little girl, is a horrifying mass of tentacles and suckers with a big beak that looks ready to devour you. It looks just like the ones from that one game.]
