Pavo Heart Game: Wednesday Session

When you enter the light, you find yourself hovering weightless in a void, as if caught in a moment of falling inertia. In the distance, you hear a voice that seems to shift and twist, familiar and yet unfamiliar.

"You shouldn't be here. But since you already are, let's make a wager. If you can uncover the truth, you'll find me. If you can't, you may be hopelessly lost... What a shame that would be."

You begin falling, and your vision blacks out--

[with Elemental Sight, the room changes a bit-- wind blows all the harder and all the colder, chilling you to your bones. Other than that, it seems the same...

Except, are you hearing whispers? They're unintelligible and quiet, tickling at the back of your mind, making you feel watched and judged.

Something flickers at the edge of your vision, but if you turn to look you see nothing but your own reflection.]

[Okay, can she track the whispers?]

[About that...

You can't track them, but the whispers grow louder.

"Why are you even trying? It's pointless. You can't win. No matter how good your mask, you'll never belong."

They continue on in that vein, and as they do they take on the sounds of familiar voices -- people you know, people you love.

But maybe more immediately concerning is that your twisted, warped reflections are reaching out of the ice towards you.]

[Oh]

[She remembers reading the words, that Lan had given her. A memory she had shared. One of frustration.]

[How hard it had been to understand at the time. As she remembers more, she's starting to get it. Why she was frustrated. Her lack of understanding.]

[Wanting to belong.]

...maybe I won't.

But the few who accept me is worth it, isn't it?

[She looks at the reflection, sees it reaching, ready to pull up the Earth, but-]

[The whispers don't seem to respond. The reflections approach you, but it's not in a nice way. There's real maliciousness there. If you let them, they'll tear you apart.]

[She sighs.]

Its not myself I fear, you know. I rather like myself.

[And then she moves up a hand and pushes the Earth magic through the lens of erupting earth.]

[AKA just making a shit ton of rocks erupt from the ground under the mirror....and...probably a bit of the area BEHIND it.]

[You use the power of geo to break some ice! The jagged shards in the immediate area shatter, falling in to dust-covered piles.

The reflections shatter as well, fragile like glass. But the maze remains, large and imposing and full of seemingly infinite reflective formations of ice.

The whispers are roaring in your ears, hard to even make sense of, now. It's just an overwhelming din of rejection.]

[Well, time to make a WAVE OF EARTH, to ride up on top of this maze then.]

[You can do that! In the center of the maze is a great, imposing spire of ice. Do you go there, or do you head for the exit?]

[WE ARE ON A MISSION.]

[ICE SPIRE.]

[The spire is tall and crystalline, pure ice tinged a bit blue. It's a bit hard to see, but deep in the middle of it, there's a small figure frozen in stasis.]

[Hmmm, earth pillar up to see this small figure. See if she can make out more details.]

[She cannot! But it's definitely a Small sized creature.]

....

[Makes a cone of earth.]

[Uses cone to Be A Drill.]

[You start to Be A Drill.

But as you do, you may realise the warped reflections are back, in force. A veritably army, swarming, climbing over the shattered remains of those that break against your soil.

A shadow flows, liquid-like, over the spire -- a malevolent mass that reaches out for you with lightning swiftness and massive, dark claws.

Please rate the scariness of this situation on a scale of 1 to 10. How seriously in trouble do you feel?]

[Well, her last memory regain was how she made a Dragon's Lair her own Lair-]

[So that's a two out of ten.]

[She breaks apart the cone, and she sends the rocks flying in a scatter shot of stone at the dark claws, ducking low, and howling, focusing on her ability to mold earth and push push push, combining with creating soil-]

[And sending a landslide of new earth down the pillar.]

[You do successfully push the reflections away. More spawn, but they're weak, and having a rough time climbing. And yet, it seems they'd be happy to use their own dead to find a way up.

The shadow splits apart, but reforms a few feet away to lash at you again. It's not very strong, but it, and the reflections, seem utterly determined to keep you from breaking that ice.]

[That's not so surprising. Sometimes monsters be like that, especially construction-like ones.]

[She'll keep sending down a landslide periodically when the monsters get too close.]

[As for the shadow, she throws up her arm, the shadow cutting into her arm before she sends another shattered rock at it. She pulls up some of the dirt, forming it into a dome over her. Make the shadow work to dig through it before trying to drill through again.]

[It'll take a lot out of you, but you can do that! Eventually the ice cracks, fissures webbing away from the point of impact like glass breaking. It sounds like glass, too, sharp and cold and yet a little musical.

The spire crumbles, and there is a small Pavo on his knees on the ground, gasping for air. He looks maybe 10 and very confused.

Your enemies only seem to get more agitated.]

[Big spell, like a big spell, she can keep doing it, she's pushed through exhaustion before-]

[There are enemies, she needs to go. She moves forward, scooping up the tiny Pavo and going to try and pull him back onto her earth spire.]

[You pull the child into your spire. He squeaks, startled, but stays oddly still considering the chaos!]

[Pulling him close, and will extend the dome into a small sphere around them.] Hang on.

[And with the rock sphere...]

[Gonna let all the rest of the earth just collapse.]

[The earth all falls! You hear reflections shattering. The shadow... who knows? You see and hear nothing of it.]

[Okay. Okay.]

We're going to try and get away from the monsters. We might be able to burrow for a bit, but when we get out to the air, we'll have to be ready to run, okay?

But--

[Tiny Pavo looks up at you with wide eyes -- the right eye is not covered by an eyepatch. Instead, the eye itself is an empty void.]

I'm not supposed to leave here.
