Pavo Heart Game: Noctua's Grand Adventure

When you enter the light, you find yourself hovering weightless in a void, as if caught in a moment of falling inertia. In the distance, you hear a voice that seems to shift and twist, familiar and yet unfamiliar.

"You shouldn't be here. But since you already are, let's make a wager. If you can uncover the truth, you'll find me. If you can't, you may be hopelessly lost... What a shame that would be."

You begin falling, and your vision blacks out--

elemental sight]

[with Elemental Sight, the room changes-- wind blows all the harder and all the colder, chilling you to your bones. Instead of a cozy hollow and a warm Pavo, you're before a tall, jagged, crystalline spire of ice, tinged a bit blue. It's a bit hard to see, but deep in the middle of it, there's a small figure frozen in stasis.

Except, are you hearing whispers? They're unintelligible and quiet, tickling at the back of your mind, making you feel watched and judged.

Something flickers at the edge of your vision, but if you turn to look you see nothing but your own reflection.

Right next to you, where Pavo was, a shadow flows, liquid-like, over the surface of the spire -- a malevolent mass that reaches out for you with lightning swiftness and massive, dark claws.

Please rate the scariness of this situation on a scale of 1 to 10. How seriously in trouble do you feel?]

[he's startled, reaches up to catch the claws, but-- this pavo didn't seem to mean him harm. it's one thing, klee turning into a representation of their shared trauma, but this was just pavo.

[...The claws do snag your arm, and leave cuts where they do. But the shadow kinda... pauses...]

[winces, but looks into the shadow's face, searching.]

Let me help you.

[The shadow does not seem to have a face. It's more of a blob.

It is a blob that's oozing slowly (but painlessly) around you, as if trying to draw you in.]

Pavo...

[it isn't hurting him. it could hurt him, it has the claws, it just DID, but instead...

embraces blob?]

[The blob seems to shudder a little. It's cold, but as it wraps around you it becomes a little warmer.

You get pulled in. Inside the shadow there's no light, but there is an odd comforting feeling.

You hear, like an echo, Pavo's voice telling you: "anything you want".]

[he shivers, but doesn't try to escape.]

Just... let me help, okay? Please. Let me carry on doing my best by you.

[The shadow ripples against your skin, brushes against your lips, affectionate and cloying and feeling just like when Pavo's trying to keep you at arm's length.

"Don't take that piece from here. ...Please."]

[...softly.]

Why?

[It doesn't answer in words. You're just washed over by a sense of fear and vulnerability -- he's telling you with that, instead. He's frightened of it. He thinks it'd hurt him.

The shadow clings more tightly, digging into your skin here and there.]

[embracing it as best he can, making soft, soothing noises.]

I won't let that piece hurt you. But... I need to judge for myself, okay? I am certainly taking your feelings into account, though.

[You can just feel Pavo laughing at you.

The shadow shifts a bit -- though you can't see it, you can feel the sensation of being lightly, teasingly kissed, and then breath at your ear.

"Protect me then, my strong and passionate big brother."

Aaaand then it dissipates into nothing. You stand alone before the spire.]

...I will.

[taking a moment, then looking to the spire. there was a form in it?]

[There is! A small one. Certainly not the size of a normal Pavo.]

[sssstepping around the spire, carefully trying to get a better look.]

[You cannot make out the figure! Just that it is there, frozen, curled up, small.]

[...pyro. gonna melt that spire.]

[You melt the spire! It crumbles with a glass-like twinkling noise, and there is now a small Pavo on his knees on the ground, gasping for air. He looks maybe 10 and very confused.]
