Pavo Heart Game: Monday Session

When you enter the light, you find yourself hovering weightless in a void, as if caught in a moment of falling inertia. In the distance, you hear a voice that seems to shift and twist, familiar and yet unfamiliar.

"You shouldn't be here. But since you already are, let's make a wager. If you can uncover the truth, you'll find me. If you can't, you may be hopelessly lost... What a shame that would be."

You begin falling, and your vision blacks out--

Fine, fiiine, but first--

[ Wriggling out of Noctua's grip so he can lean forward and give Pavo a forehead chu ]

I don't intend to leave anyone out!

[You chu the Pavo! He seems... weirdly disinterested in it. Like he lets it happen but his only reaction is that placid smirk.]

How sweet of you. And will you be taking that child with you?

Of course! We can't have you becoming hopelessly codependent~

[ Turning to tiny Pavo ]

C'mon, I bet you can bring your drink with you.

Lock is over there.

[Noctua mutters, gesturing off towards the corner. Tiny Pavo slides off the bar stool obediently, watching Venti and waiting to see what he'll do.]

[ Giving Noctua one last wink because, he's gotta.

Now it's ELEMENTAL SIGHT time, baby. ]

[You turn on Elemental Sight, and everything goes grey. The colour is instantly seeped out of the room, and the sounds of the rowdy bar fade to a distant din. The people are all still there, but you can barely hear them, and they are acting as if you don't exist.

All the frames on the walls have been turned backwards.

Noctua is cleaning the glasses behind a bar at which slumps a silent Pavo, with a greatsword through his chest. The only colour in the room is the blood spilling over the bar and his seat and pooling on the floor.

You're alone, now, except for Noctua's sharp eyes.]

Did you have to look?

[ His expression flickers for just a moment, but otherwise remains distantly pleasant. ]

Of course I did.

"You" told us to take a closer look for a reason, don't you think?

Maybe.

[Noctua doesn't seem impressed though.... Just a little sad.]

Still, there are parts of "me" that really ought to be private.

Maybe so.

But sometimes secrets kept can be wounds left to fester unnecessarily.

Secrets can be a lot of things.

[Noctua remains impassive, setting down the clean glass in its proper place and picking up another from the bar. There's blood on the underside, and that on the bar pools into the space left by the glass.]

[ Approaching Pavo, after a moment ]

. . . Is he dead?

[From this different angle, you can see that Pavo appears to be very dead, but at the same time, he has a satisfied smile on his bloody lips.]

Yes. That's a useless piece that died four years ago.

He said this was "relationships."

So then, what piece was this?

[ He's sure he already knows, but . . . ]

The sense of security. Safety and belonging.

[shrug!!]

It's dangerous, so "I" elected to have it removed.

[ PAVO ]

I see.

You're still here, though. Even when it's like this.

True. I guess "I" can't help getting attached. But as long as that piece is dead, I won't get so comfortable it comes back to bite me.

[ Well. He probably can't bring heart figments back to life.

And -- would it really be his place to do so anyway? It's not as if he can't understand. ]

Well then, you'll simply have to promise to keep yourself safe.

...I probably couldn't die no matter how hard "I" tried to kill me.

[HUFFS. Not!Noctua has real Noctua's expressions and body language down PERFECTLY to the tiniest detail. All the others may be a bit off but Not This One.]

[ Cute . . . ]

I'll rest easier knowing that.

[ Ok let's go find that switch we were supposed to be looking for ]

[It is behind a free-standing cabinet in the corner! Easy peasy, if you reach in or move it.]

[ It's a tavern.

Clearly we CLIMB THE CABINET and SLAP THE BUTTON. ]

[Clearly we do!

The lock lights up and you hear a distant click!

...I forgot to note your anemo party in the office also would've gotten you a click so just pretend that happened. Which means you're down to two more rooms!]
